Why does the sound in webinar recordings deteriorate?

We would like to point out the following. Since the issue described in this article is not directly related to our platform and does not affect the quality of online events, it is not eligible for a refund. We provide free access to the platform and 20 minutes of recording for testing purposes. Therefore, we kindly ask you to conduct thorough tests and consider all aspects before switching to a paid plan.

Why does the sound in uploaded videos differ in webinar recordings?

You uploaded a pre-recorded video to the platform, conducted a webinar, and during the live broadcast, participants enjoyed the audio in normal quality. However, when listening to the webinar recording, you notice that the audio quality has worsened. This issue is especially critical for content like meditations, where sound quality is paramount. Why does this happen, and what can be done about it? Let’s dive in.

The main goal of our platform

First and foremost, it’s essential to understand that our platform is designed for delivering high-quality live broadcasts, not for serving as a video-hosting platform like YouTube. Our primary goal is to ensure that your content reaches all webinar participants, even those with unstable or slow internet connections. To achieve this, we use adaptive streaming technology.

What is adaptive video and audio?

When you upload a video to our platform, it undergoes a preparation process, including adaptation of both the video and audio. This means we create several versions of the audio tracks at different bitrates: 128 kbps, 96 kbps, 64 kbps, and 32 kbps. For example, if your original video’s audio track has a bitrate of 256 kbps, the platform will save only the version with a maximum bitrate of 128 kbps.

This approach reduces the amount of data that needs to be transmitted during the live broadcast, which is especially crucial for participants with slower internet speeds. It’s a balanced solution that ensures stable content delivery during the webinar, albeit with a slight compromise on audio quality.

Why does audio quality decline in webinar recordings?

During the webinar, the audio from your uploaded video is played back in its adapted format at a bitrate of 128 kbps. Once the webinar concludes, a recording is created that includes this already adapted video. That recording is then processed again to optimize playback on the platform. As a result, audio that was already compressed to 128 kbps undergoes further processing, potentially leading to additional quality loss.

This effect becomes particularly noticeable if your original video had high-bitrate audio, such as 256 kbps. After double adaptation, the audio may lose even more detail.

How to solve this problem?

We understand that sound quality is crucial for specific types of content, such as meditations. That’s why we suggest a straightforward solution to restore the original audio quality:

Download the webinar recording in MP4 format.

You can do this from your personal account on the platform.

Edit the recording using the original audio track.

Use any video editing software available to you to overlay the original audio onto the recorded video. This will restore the original bitrate and audio quality.

Save the edited file for future use.

After post-processing, you can reuse the video, confident that the sound quality meets your expectations.

Re-upload the edited video to the platform.

Once uploaded, you can use the improved video for future webinars without compromising quality.

A reminder of our focus

Our mission is to provide tools for hosting “live” events, such as webinars, live streams, and interactive sessions. Our primary objective is to ensure participant satisfaction with the quality of the live event, even if their internet connection is less than ideal.

We are not aiming to replace video-hosting platforms, as you already have access to your original content. However, we are always open to suggestions and committed to improving our services.

Conclusion

If you’ve experienced a drop in audio quality in webinar recordings, don’t worry—it’s easy to fix. Follow the suggested steps to enjoy audio content that retains all the nuances of the original sound. We appreciate your trust in our platform and hope your webinars are successful and unforgettable!
