Perfect sound for webinars! Simple solutions

How to ensure high-quality audio in your webinars

Audio quality plays a crucial role in the success of any webinar. When participants complain about audio dropouts, background noise, delays, or other issues, it can ruin the overall experience and reduce engagement. If you face these challenges, it’s essential to understand the causes and implement effective solutions.

Let’s explore why audio issues occur and what steps you can take to resolve them.

Why does audio quality suffer?

By default, our webinar rooms use the WebRTC protocol built into your browser. This protocol relies on the low-level UDP network protocol, which has a critical limitation — it does not guarantee data delivery. As a result, during unstable internet connections, audio and video may be lost, delayed, or distorted.

What causes this?

UDP, unlike TCP, prioritizes speed over reliability. If network issues such as high latency or packet loss occur, they directly impact the quality of audio and video. UDP does not attempt to retransmit lost data, leading to interruptions or degradation in audio.

How to avoid audio quality issues

Check your internet connection.

With WebRTC, you are the source of audio and video for our servers. If your connection is unstable, we may not always be able to compensate for these issues. Ensure your internet connection is stable and fast enough for smooth data transmission.

Ensure your device performs well.

WebRTC is resource-intensive and can heavily load your computer's processor. If your device is busy with other tasks, it may cause delays or reduced audio and video quality. Use modern equipment with sufficient processing power for a seamless experience.

Optimize your equipment setup.

A good microphone, a quality webcam, and a suitable environment are crucial. Avoid background noise and, if possible, use specialized headphones or microphones.

What solution do we offer?

If audio quality is a priority for you and you often host webinars, we recommend using our downloadable DTS plugin.

Why is this important?

The plugin uses the TCP protocol, which guarantees data delivery. This ensures that audio reaches your participants without interruptions or dropouts. Even if temporary internet delays occur, they are typically within 2-3 seconds and are automatically compensated.

You can fine-tune audio quality by selecting options such as "Music" or "Excellent." This is especially beneficial for those using professional equipment.

Installing the plugin may take a little time, particularly on Windows 11, but it’s a worthwhile step. Once set up, your webinars will run flawlessly, and participants will no longer experience audio problems.

What changes for your participants?

For your audience, nothing changes. They can continue to join webinars through their favorite browser, just like before. All technical improvements happen behind the scenes, ensuring your events are more professional and enjoyable.

Conclusion

Audio quality is the foundation of a successful webinar. A stable internet connection, modern equipment, and the DTS plugin will help you achieve perfect sound. By setting up the plugin just once, you can forget about audio complaints and focus on delivering valuable content.
