Disabling sleep mode in the browser when using MyOwnConference
Disable sleep mode in your browser when using MyOwnConference
If you use MyOwnConference in your browser and have multiple tabs open, your connection may be interrupted when the webinar tab is inactive. To prevent this, you should disable tab sleep mode in your browser. Each browser names this setting differently, but the function is the same — to put unused tabs to sleep in order to save resources.
While this is useful for conserving memory and power, MyOwnConference needs a constant connection to the server. If your browser puts the webinar tab to sleep, it can break the connection, cause audio and video issues, and disconnect speakers or attendees.
Microsoft Edge
Edge allows you to disable sleep mode for specific sites.
👉 Open Microsoft Edge, then click “Settings and more” (three dots in the top-right corner).

👉 Go to “System and performance”.

👉 Under “Never put these sites to sleep”, click “Add”.

👉 Enter your domain in this format: [*.]myownconference.com and click “Add”.

Google Chrome
In Chrome, you can keep certain sites always active.
👉 Open Google Chrome, go to the menu (three dots), and click “Settings”.

👉 Open the “Performance” section.

👉 Find “Always keep these sites active” and click “Add”.

👉 Select “Add sites manually”, type myownconference.com, and click “Add”.

Mozilla Firefox
In Firefox, this must be configured manually for every tab.
👉 Open Mozilla Firefox.
👉 Type about:config in the address bar and press Enter.

👉 Click “Accept the Risk and Continue”.
👉 In the search bar, type: browser.tabs.unloadOnLowMemory.

👉 Set the value to False by clicking “Toggle”.

If you regularly host or attend webinars in MyOwnConference, it’s best to make these browser adjustments in advance. That way you can avoid unexpected disconnections during important sessions.
